The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed a six-month moratorium on site plan approvals for data center development projects in Calvert County at its Aug. 18, 2026, regular meeting following a public hearing. In addition, no site plan applications for data center development will be accepted by the county during the six-month moratorium.

The moratorium will become effective Aug. 28, in accordance with Title 4 of the Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code.

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners is expected to discuss potential changes to the Calvert County Zoning Ordinance regarding data centers as a permitted use at a future meeting. Learn more at the www.choosecalvert.com/DataCenters.
