Saturday morning around 7:30 a.m., fifty Firefighters from the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call on Philip Lane in Leonardtown for a two story single family dwelling on fire. It took them about an hour to get the blaze under control. While the fire remains under investigation, criminal activity is not suspected. The homeowner was awake at the time of the fire and noticed heavy fire conditions coming from the garage area of the home. She and another occupant were able to escape safely. Unfortunately a family dog perished. Owner being assisted by family. The estimated loss in the fire is $1,000,000. No firefighters were injured in fighting the fire.
